Days 213-217: The Rest of The Hols

on August 4, 2012

I’ve been so busy this last few days in South Wales. Yesterday we journeyed back to Bumpkinsville and due to inconsiderate so ‘n’ so’s there was a 5 car pile up which set us back by nearly 2 hours and took lots of petrol out of the tank too.

So what did we do? Tuesday (Day 213) we visited St Fagans and saw what life used to be like in Wales. Got soaked through to looking like Alice Cooper & until my hair ran!

Followed that up with a shufty at Barry Island. Went on to the beach with my boys, Poppy (my dad) and the aunt we stayed with first. Saw the famous sights of Barry made famous by Gavin & Stacey, I must be about the only person that hasn’t seen a single episode, even ate chips from their ‘fave’ chippy!

The boys rode horses, chased sheep & alpacas, fed a falcon, shot an air rifle, saw a pig in early labour, road in a tractor and in its bin too.

Wednesday (Day 214): We headed over to The Gower and met my cousin and her baby boy… So cute. (We originally met them on Monday but baby was a tad on the grouchy side).

Almost immediately we headed for the coast, walked down Worm’s Head (just 3 hours after we’d been there and talking about how there is a lack of coastguards on the private beach 2 boys sadly fell off the rocks and died) bought some postcards then headed over to the beach in Rhossili.

The boys dug & ran about as we chatted and watched some kids land surfing. It was fab, looks so much fun.
We headed back to our base with fish & chips in our grubby mitts.

Thursday (Day 215): Simply put an exceedingly busy day and the driest. We spent the bulk of it at Folly Farm Adventure Park & Zoo. Saw baby zebras, giraffes and emus among many other animals. The boys loved the adventure playgrounds based around pirate ships and a dragon. Eventually, I managed to drag them away to the soft play area and onto the gift shop.

After the zoo we went onto Tenby. A coastal resort similar to the Cornish coast. We went down to the Harbour bay beach. Fantastically sheltered the boys and baby had a whale of time and got utterley soaked through. I hope to go back another time.

Friday (Day 216): Our last day in the Fatherland. We set off an hour later than expected. What had been a swift drive on Monday was the exact opposite on the way back. Long, tedious and felt positively never ending. Thanks in part to several car accidents.

Saturday (Day 217): So now it’s today. A real bump back to earth. The boys who even though were thrown out of their environment were relatively well behaved are now spiralling into real head doers. I’m wondering what it is that’s changed for them. The lack of DS playing, the reintroduction of The Husband or just the fact that apart from going shopping this morning we have done basically nothing today.

Maybe the key to kids who behave is activities! Who knew. Now to talk ‘I’m indoors into it.

Activities: just about everything we’ve done in the last week… Now I just want to sleep!
